from the Lincoln Journal Star
This will end up being my final cartoon for the Lincoln Journal Star. I didn’t know at the time that it’d be my last, but I think it’s a decent way to go out. It’s all about speaking out and trying to make a difference when the established power structure tells you you’re doing it wrong. And I spent a lot of time on it!
Thanks to everyone who read my cartoons in the Journal Star over the years, wrote a letter, commented on a cartoon, or just thought about what you read in any capacity. Back in my time at the Daily Nebraskan, I honestly never thought I’d have the opportunity to cartoon for a daily paper. I got to know some really great people, many of whom will never get an appropriate level of thanks for the hard work they do in putting out the paper.
Thanks to Kathleen Rutledge for taking a chance on me back in the summer of 2004, and thanks to Gordon Winters for putting up with me! I had a blast. It was a great seven years!
Neal, the last one?
Really?
What happened? Was it the new publisher?
Seriously though, I’d like to hear from you. I’m back at the old UNL COJMC, thought it’d be nice to see what’s going on with you now, and going forward. Seen me an email or something.
Wurd.
I’m sorry it had to end, but you are right, you giant African American man…it is a good way to go out.
Go Cubs.
Hey Tony! I heard you were at the J-School now. Congratulations! I’ll be in touch. Maybe I can make it down to Lincoln sometime and you and Rick and I can go grab lunch.
Too bad to hear that… your cartoons were one of the few redeeming things I enjoyed about the LJS.
Was the best part of my bathroom time every Sunday.
Hey Bill,
Big fan of yours! Do have any advice for a fellow cartoonist for hire? I could really do with some tips.
Thanks so much in advance!
I have the best fans.
That is a pretty good tip, thanks :p hehe
