AL-GREENE: “A cartoon can function without a face, as long as it has a powerful (or recognizable, or funny) image. The allusion to 2001: A Space Odyssey was one I was afraid would be too abstract and unrecognizable, but the cartoon did well in competition. This might be the best cartoon I did at Central, which I wouldn’t have expected, even though I dug the idea from the beginning. It’s also one of several cartoons that I generated completely by myself without any other input and which wound up looking exactly like I had planned.”
